Josh Emmett's case for a UFC featherweight championship opportunity became a lot stronger on Saturday, when he defeated Calvin Kattar in a split decision.
Over the course of a back-and-forth five-round battle, Emmett (18-2) targeted Kattar (23-6) with winging right hands and body blows. The scorecards of all three judges were quite close. Emmett, the betting underdog, was given the 145-pound bout 48-47 by two officials. A third viewed it 48-47 in Kattar's favor. The bout was the main event of UFC Fight Night in Austin, Texas.
Despite the fact that the fight was unquestionably tight, with a broad variety of fan ratings on social media, Emmett expressed confidence in the outcome. At UFC 276 on Saturday, current champion Alexander Volkanovski will defend his title against Max Holloway.
